The November Show and Grand Prive Draw was held at Whittington Village Hall on the 30th November. A Fish & Chip supper supplied by The Fradley Fryer was followed by Apple Pie & Cream. The 72 guests were then entertained by The Zouch Band with a multi-media presentation on the history of 'Coal & Canals'. Tradditional songs were mixed with pictures, video, and commentary.
During the interval the Grand Prize Draw was held, the top three prizes including the 1st prize of £750 can be seen in the video below. Eight cash prizes were awarded totalling £1,200. Full details of the winners are available on request.
All winners have been notified and received their prizes. The response to our annual Prize Draw was again very encouraging with 3,927 tickets sold at £2 each, plus donations making a gross income of £8,158, less operational costs leaving a net gain of £6,938.
We thank our members and the public who supported this valuable fund-raising activity, also our willing volunteers who raised the most funds ever at various events through the year.
The Lichfield branch of the Inland Waterways Association has donated £500 to Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust and specified that the money should go towards the ‘marvellous work party volunteers’ for materials or machinery expenses. John Bryan, commercial director for LHCRT, received a cheque from Pete Gurney, iWA Lichfield branch treasurer at its November meeting. The latest donation brings to £1,600 the branch’s support for ‘this transformational local restoration project’ in 2019.
Lichfield’s canal restoration trust has been selected by Waitrose & Partners
Lichfield to be supported through its Community Matters scheme.
Over the course of December the store will display the Lichfield and
Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust name, registered charity number and a
short description of what the Trust does on one of three Community Matters
boxes into which customers can place a token received after their shop. At
the end of the month the store will donate a proportion of £1,000 to the Trust,
based on the number of votes customers cast for the Trust and two other
local good causes.
The Inland Waterways Association has confirmed Luke Walker as its nominated trustee to Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust.
Luke, whose professional background includes work on some major overseas capital communications projects including the CCTV system for the Lantau and Airport Railway linking Hong Kong with the present airport at Chek Lap Kok, joined the Trust’s board in 2016, and will continue in the role for a further three years.
He said: “I'm really pleased to be re-appointed as part of the LHCRT team of trustees. “I've really enjoyed working with them and it's good to know that both they and the IWA trustees want me to stay on board. “I have recently resigned my membership of Wessex Waterways Restoration Trust, which is the charity I helped to found about two years ago to work on the Wilts & Berks Canal. “This leaves me more time to focus my efforts on LHCRT which is one of the best waterway restoration organisations in England and Wales. “LHCRT has a great sense of focus on our shared objective and great confidence and determination in tackling the challenges necessary to see our canals re-opened.”
